Swedish massage uses the power of touch to move clients into a state of total relaxation. Therapists will locate areas of tension and use different techniques to enable these areas to relax. Swedish Massage is a combination of long flowing strokes, kneading, and friction on the more superficial layers of muscle tissue.
Swedish massage feels good, and is relaxing and invigorating. It affects the nerves, muscles, glands and circulation, promoting health and well being. The main purpose of Swedish massage is to increase the oxygen flow in the blood and release toxins from the muscles.
Swedish massage shortens recovery time from muscular strain by flushing the tissues of lactic acid, uric acid, and other metabolic wastes. It increases circulation without increasing heart load, and stimulates the skin and nervous system. It reduces stress, both emotional and physical, and is recommended in a regular program for stress management. All Freedom Massage therapists have a Swedish based massage, blended with other techniques.
Deep Tissue Massage goes deeper and beyond the surface. The therapist works deep into the muscle fiber, using knuckles and elbows, to relieve tension. Communication on pain levels is crucial in order for this modality to work. Deep tissue massage is used to help relieve prolonged stress in the body. This massage is on the specialty list of all our therapists.
Deep tissue massage can improve posture, increase range of motion in muscles and joints, release tension, reduce stress, reduce or eliminate pain and dysfunction, and increase circulation and the oxygenation of tissue. This type of massage may also be indicated for other conditions or injuries not listed here.
Pfrimmer is a specialized style of massage. In a session, the therapist uses shorter motions to work across the fibers of the muscles. As each layer relaxes, the next layer becomes easily accessible. This allows the deeper muscles of the body to be reached without having to apply too much pressure. The back and forth direction of the massage encourages blood flow to the applied areas, which starts the body on the natural path towards healing itself all the way down to the cellular level. Gentle friction also helps to release scar tissue and muscles that may have become stuck to other muscles or bone. Once everything is free, your body is able to move and function the way it is supposed to. While Pfrimmer is an excellent therapeutic and corrective technique, the rhythmic motions make it extremely relaxing as well.
Reflexology is a therapeutic method of relieving pain by stimulating predefined pressure points on the feet. Reflexology may be as effective for promoting good health and for preventing illness as it may be for relieving symptoms of stress, injury, and illness.
Reflexologists work from maps of predefined pressure points that are located on the feet. These pressure points are reputed to connect directly through the nervous system and affect the bodily organs and glands. The reflexologist manipulates the pressure points according to specific techniques of reflexology therapy. By means of this touching therapy, any part of the body that is the source of pain, illness, or potential debility can be strengthened through the application of pressure at the respective foot or hand location.
Reflexology promotes healing by stimulating the nerves in the body and encouraging the flow of blood. In the process, reflexology not only quells the sensation of pain, but relieves the source of the pain as well.
Reflexologists claim success in the treatment of a variety of conditions and injuries. One condition is fibromyalgia. People with this disease are encouraged to undergo reflexology therapy to alleviate any of a number of chronic bowel syndromes associated with the condition. Frequent brief sessions of reflexology therapy are also recommended as an alternative to drug therapy for controlling the muscle pain associated with fibromyalgia and for relieving difficult breathing caused by tightness in the muscles of the patient’s neck and throat. Reflexology applied properly can alleviate allergy symptoms, as well as stress, back pain, and chronic fatigue.
Trigger Point Therapy is used to relieve muscular pain and dysfunction through applied pressure to trigger points and stretching exercises. Trigger points are localized areas of tissue which are sensitive to pain when compressed. Pressure on these points can send referred pain to other specific parts of the body. Through applying pressure to these points, the muscle is temporarily deprived of oxygen. When the pressure is released the tissue becomes flooded with oxygen and nutrients. As the trigger points are deactivated and released, the muscle tissue is able to improve form and function more efficiently. Your therapist may blend this modality into your massage.
Hot stone massage is a specialty massage that uses smooth, heated stones. They are often basalt, a black volcanic rock that absorbs and retains heat well. It is a deeply soothing, relaxing form of massage. The heat helps tight muscles release.

MFR is an interactive stretching technique that provides maximum relaxation of tense tissues. Fascia is connective tissue surrounding and penetrating every tissue and organ of the body. Fascia may become adherent or stuck to muscle (myo) tissue resulting in pain and/or dysfunction. Gentle pressure and traction of the body part may create the connective tissue or fascial release when held in a certain position. The therapist determines the direction, force, and duration of the stretch based on feedback from the client’s body. Efficient posture and movement are goals of this treatment. Freedom Massage therapists do not perform full sessions of Myofascial Release, but do incorporate it into their massages.
The primary goal of myofascial release is to eliminate fascial restrictions thereby alleviating a wide variety of conditions. This is a therapeutic approach to relief of:
Otherwise known as Ancient Massage, or passive yoga, Thai massage is a technique used to give an experience of the total body. It is similar to Shiatsu and acupressure with stretches and yogic Asanas or postures. Thai–Yoga Bodywork is the perfect modality for clients who are looking to achieve greater flexibility and balance. Thai is practiced on a floor mat and the client remains fully clothed. Comfortable clothing is essential, because your body will be pushed to its fullest potential. Your body will fall into a state of ease as your muscles are stretched and compressed. The therapist and client work together to loosen and strengthen the body as a whole. Yoga therapists will love this modality, because it will encourage a deeper practice. You will find freedom through assistance and begin to unravel emotions or physical restraints holding you back from your full potential. You will be able to concentrate not only on attaining and maintaining postures, but breathing deeper into yourself through an assisted posture. Thai–Yoga Bodywork is for those who want to truly understand their body and help it unwind. Freedom Massage therapists are available to help you experience the ancient art of Thai–Yoga Bodywork and rediscover your body in a whole new way.
